Running For People Who Hate Running
Can I be honest for a second? I HATE running. Hate it. If I could choose any one thing to eliminate from the face of the earth forever, it would probably be a toss up between cockroaches and running.
But…in the years I’ve been fighting the good fitness fight, I have yet to find an exercise that is better for my overall health than running. And, trust me, I’ve tried them all: power walking, aerobics, Zumba (which I still love), bellydance, swimming, Pilates…I could go on for quite some time.
I took up serious running a couple of years back and I got into the best shape of my life during that time. And then I got pregnant with our fourth child. I didn’t even think about the pavement for the entire pregnancy and when I was finally ready to start exercising again, I had returned to my initial hatred of running.
Enter Couch25K. The running program for people who hate running. I’ve completed it and fallen off the wagon since, so it’s time to start up again!
If you’re unfamiliar with Couch25K, it’s a nine-week program that takes you from walking to running for 30 minutes straight. And it works – well, it works if you’re consistent, which is not one of my strong points. (When I did the program last time, it took me 12 weeks.)
But today is a new day! So I’m starting Couch25K again this evening. My run days are going to be Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, but I’m hitting the gym because cold weather and I do NOT get along.
I’ll be posting my progress with the program on my Instagram profile, so feel free to follow along if you want to join in! I’d love to see your progress, especially if you’re a fellow running hater.
By the way, if you want to check out any Couch25K apps, Amazon has a few great ones that are free or very inexpensive!
